“Not even playing, still the face of world cricket,” Indian fans react on twitter as promotion ad of India Vs New Zealand series shows Virat Kohli alongside Kane Williamson

Hardik Pandya is the counterpart of Kane Williamson in the upcoming India Vs New Zealand series, but Virat Kohli is featuring in promotion ads

Generally, cricket matches abroad are promoted using the names of the players who are part of that particular series, but Virat Kohli is one of those players who feature on the promotion ads for overseas cricket matches even when he is not playing.

A similar case was there to be seen ahead of the first T20I between India and New Zealand. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and all the senior Indian players have been rested for this series and a team full of youngsters has been sent to New Zealand under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.

But rather than Pandya featuring in the promotion ads of the series, it’s still Virat Kohli who is featuring in the ads despite the fact that he won’t be playing any part in the series at all. Earlier today a promotional ad for the series was shared on Twitter which featured pictures of Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli.

While Kane is the captain of New Zealand and his picture on the promotion ad is understandable, his counterpart in the Indian side currently is Hardik Pandya, but rather than Pandya’s picture featured in the promotion ad, it’s Virat Kohli who is the face of the promotion of the series.

Broadcasters and sponsors are promoting the India Vs New Zealand series using the face of Virat Kohli

While Virat Kohli‘s face is used to promote the India Vs New Zealand series by the broadcasters Amazon prime and the sponsors, there is uncertainty over Kohli’s T20I career as well and even though he was the leading run scorer of the recently finished T20 World Cup, there are reports that the Indian team management might move on from the former Indian captain along with the other senior players of the team.

However, Virat Kohli’s fans had a good laugh on Twitter earlier today when the picture of a promotion ad of the upcoming India Vs New Zealand T20I series got viral with Virat’s picture on it –

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
