“Mumbai gonna have yet another crumbling season?” – Twitter reacts as Jhye Richardson ruled out of IPL 2023

Another serious setback has been dealt to the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as pacer Jhye Richardson will not be playing for MI. Richardson’s hamstring injury forced him to miss the ODI series against India, casting uncertainty on whether or not he would be able to play in the event. The Australian pacer announced on Saturday (March 11) that he had had the surgery procedure.

“Injuries are a big part of cricket, thats a fact. Frustrating? Absolutely. But I’m now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work bloody hard to become an even better player than before. One step back, two steps forward. Let’s do this,” Richardson wrote in his tweet.

MI paid the initial asking amount of Rs 1.50 crore for Richardson. He hadn’t played since January of 2023, and his return to club cricket last week left him in pain. Richardson had to bow out of the India series and go under the knife as a result.

The right-arm bowler will be sidelined for a few months once again owing to an injury that has kept him from playing cricket before. Since his debut in 2017, he has played in only three tests, fifteen one-day internationals, and eighteen Twenty20 internationals.

Without Richardson, MI will be down two players for the 2023 IPL. The season-long absence of Jasprit Bumrah is also official. The veteran pacer has been set to miss the next five to six months after undergoing back surgery in New Zealand.

The replacement for the Mumbai Indians has not been named. The team may pick from a wide variety of pace bowlers from other countries, but none of them will be able to replace Bumrah. The five-time IPL winners will kick off their season on the road against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2.
