Although he bowled only one over in the game, Mohammad Shami stole the limelight with the only over he bowled in the game. The right-arm pacer not only defended 11 runs in the last over but also picked three wickets with terrific yorkers.

After India posted a total of 186 runs on the board, a decent bowling effort was required to defend the target, Indian bowlers albeit bowled good lines but also bowled some bad deliveries as well, resulting in the match going to the last over.

Till the 19th over of the game, there was no sign of Mohammad Shami and it seemed that he won’t come and will be back for the second warmup game. But skipper Rohit Sharma surprised many when Shami came to bowl the last over and won the game for India.

After conceding 4 overs off the first two balls, Shami then turned the game for his side and picked wickets on three successive balls including one run out that helped India bundle out the opposition for just 180 runs and win the game by 7 runs.

Many praised Shami for his bowling heroics including former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:

“It took just six balls for Mohammed Shami to show the world that he was right here. It was like him saying that Jasprit Bumrah might not be there, but I am here. He showed that he can be the answer to India’s problems and that he can also deliver in the 20th over.” He said.

Aakash Chopra also highlighted how in the span of 6 balls Mohammad Shami turned the game for his side. Weighing on the yorkers he bowled, he said:

“Mohammed Shami got just six deliveries. That’s all you allowed him to bowl. We were all surprised by that. Warm-up matches are generally used to try different things and give chances to your players.

“We were all hoping that Shami would get an over, but the skipper didn’t do that. It looked as if India wouldn’t be able to win the game when Australia needed 11 off six balls. But then, Shami came and bowled yorkers after yorkers. He bowled just one short ball, the rest were all yorkers.” He said.

India will next lock horns against New Zealand on 19th October at the same venue. Shami is expected to bowl his full quota of overs in the game and is also likely to play a crucial role in the World Cup.
