The opening game of the five-match T20I series between the Indian cricket team and the South African cricket team has been completed. It was the Proteas squad that emerged victorious in the first game of this series. David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen smashed a half-century each to help their team win the match. There was a costly dropped catch from Shreyas Iyer as well which had a big impact on the result.
During the 16th over of the South African cricket team’s innings, Rassie van der Dussen was batting on 29 runs off 30 balls. David Miller took a single on the first ball bowled by Avesh Khan and gave the strike to van der Dussen. Khan managed to deceive van der Dussen as he almost handed a catch to Shreyas Iyer.
It looked like Iyer would complete the catch, but he dropped it as van der Dussen got a life. The South African cricket team batter made full use of that opportunity and smashed 45 runs from the next 15 deliveries. His unbeaten half-century helped the South African cricket team win the match with five balls to spare.
Ishan Kishan feels catches win matches but it is wrong to blame only Shreyas Iyer for the defeat
Speaking with reporters at the post-match press conference, Ishan Kishan reflected on that dropped catch. He agreed that taking catches is important, but he also said that it would be wrong to blame one individual for the defeat.
Here’s what he was quoted as saying:
“Whenever we lose the game, it is not just because of one player. It is never one player who makes us lose the match. I know catches do win matches but at the same time, we have to get better with our bowling department also so that we can come back stronger in the next game.”
