The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (26th March) named the annual contracts for the 2022-23 season. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who was promoted, were the receivers for the Grade A+ (INR 7 crores) contract.
Hardik Pandya along with Akshar Patel was promoted to Grade A (INR 5 crores) while R Ashwin, Mohammad Shami and Rishabh Pant retained their place. Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj were handed Grade B (INR 3 crores) contracts along with KL Rahul, who was demoted from Grade A.
There were few new additions in Grade C (INR 1 crore) in Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Ishan Kishan and Deepak Hooda whereas Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav retained their place while there was a demotion for Shikhar Dhawan.
Talking about Rahul, things haven’t been going his way since the last few months. Before he was demoted in the contract, the batter was dropped from the T20I and Test teams and was sacked as the vice-captain of the team. He has been underwhelming with the bat and is struggling to get going, which potentially was the reason behind his downfall.
Rahul will be next seen in action in the IPL 2023. He will captain Lucknow Super Giants in the league. The tournament will be extremely important for him as his place in the Indian side is under the scanner. He needs to have a good season in the league to reclaim his stake back in the national side.
