When it comes to T20 cricket & IPL, it is very important to have some of the best all-rounders on the team. It is always good to have some of the best names in the team who can always change the course of the match with the ball & the bat whenever needed.
Indian Premier League is also going through some massive changes. Two new teams have been introduced & there are some new rules regarding the auction & retention of the players. As per the reports, these two new franchisees – Lucknow & Ahmedabad – will be allowed to pick three new players from the auction pool once the existing teams announce the players they are retaining.
Both the franchisees will have the freedom to pick two Indian & two foreign players from the available players for auction. Whereas, in the case of old franchisees, they can retain three Indian players & one foreign player. In the case of uncapped players, the old franchisee can pick two & the new one can pick one.
Authorities have given one month to the franchisees to make their final decision on the retention of their players. In this article, we will look at 3 foreign all-rounders, who can be retained by the franchisees before the mega auction.
3) Glen Maxwell
Glen Maxwell has become an asset to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recent season of the Indian Premier League. Maxwell showed his true talent & a completely different picture as compared to his last season in 2020 which was with Punjab Kings. There were many speculations regarding his performance before the tournament when RCB purchased him in the auction. Luckily, it turned out to be a great decision.
Viewers witnessed a completely different Maxwell this season & there was a fresh equation between skipper Kohli & his newly appointed soldier Maxwell. RCB managed to win games by scoring 513 runs at an average of 42.75. RCB will surely retain Glen Maxwell because of two reasons .i.e firstly because of his performance & secondly AB de Villiers might take a retirement & hence they need someone to fill the void.
2) Andre Russell
Kolkata Knight Riders know that Andre Russell is a trump card for them. He is the most impressive game-changer in the history of IPL & in the history of Kolkata Knight Riders. He is considered the most valuable player in the season of 2015 & 2019.
Even though his form has been inconsistent & unpredictable from the past 2 seasons, he is defiantly an elite cricketer. Skipper Eoin Morgan & KKR’s team management would defiantly like to have a player who can be a match-winner for the team whenever needed. Andre Russell did perform extremely well with the ball in IPL 2021 & in the next season will be fearless & hence KKR would like to retain him.
1) Kieron Pollard
Mumbai Indians were crushed in this season & their performance was not up to the mark. They finished IPL 2021 season at the fifth position with very inconsistent performance. However, a player who stood out with his performance whenever his team needed him to was Kieron Pollard. Pollard has been the most consistent player for Mumbai Indians & they are known to support their players.
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Pollard also got an opportunity to lead the team & he did an exceptional job. It is always difficult to get a player back, like Kieron Pollard, after the release. Other teams will be keeping an eye on him & the moment they get a chance, they will do anything to buy him. Mumbai Indians are smart enough to know that & they will be planning to retain the West Indian skipper. MI knows that Pollard is a good investment that will give a great return.
