The International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced the T20 World Cup back in the year 2007 which was staged in South Africa. The showpiece event had twists and turns, countless thrilling moments.

The inaugural edition turned out to be a massive hit among the cricket fraternity. Team India won the inaugural edition of the showpiece event by beating Pakistan in the final to win their maiden title.

Since then, the likes of Pakistan, England, Sri Lanka, Australia and West Indies have gone on to show their supremacy in the marquee event. West Indies and England won two T20 World Cup titles.

On the other hand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia have won a title each. The 8th edition of the T20 World Cup saw England and Pakistan making it to the finals of the competition. In the end, the Three Lions had the last laugh in the battle.

ICC confirms that the 2024 T20 World Cup will have 5 teams in each group

So far, as many as eight editions of the showpiece event have come to a close, with England and West Indies dominating the tournament by winning two titles apiece.

The forthcoming edition of the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in 2014. With two years of time left and with plenty of permutations and combinations for the teams to experiment, the upcoming edition is going to be an interesting one for sure.

Meanwhile, in the latest development, it has been confirmed that the ICC said that the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will have as many as five teams in each group. A journalist by the name of Farid Khan added that there will be a total of four groups.

New Zealand, India, Pakistan, England, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, West Indies and USA are the teams that directly qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024.

“Top two teams in each group will qualify for Super 8 round. In Super 8, there will be two groups of four teams. The top two in each group will then reach semis,” the journalist added.
