S Sreesanth was a very promising swing bowler that India had in the mid-2000s and early 2010s and he contributed to some of India’s biggest world triumphs including the two World Cups that they won in the 4-year period from 2007 to 2011.
However, the international career of Sreesanth went into a bit of jeopardy after he was accused of being involved in spot-fixing during IPL 2013 and was banned from playing any kind of cricket for some time. The accusations, however, didn’t prove accurate and BCCI later allowed the seamer to play domestic cricket again.
Sreesanth made a comeback to domestic cricket for a brief period, with an eye on making a comeback to the IPL and then to the Indian team, but it didn’t go as per plan and he eventually called it a day.
However, while speaking on a podcast named CricChat recently, Sreesanth passed a sensational statement and said if he was picked in the Indian team to play under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India would have been able to win three more world titles, that is the ODI World Cup of 2015, the ODI World Cup of 2019 and the T20 World Cup of 2021.
While Sreesanth mentioned Virat Kohli, it was not Virat Kohli who was the captain of the Indian team in the ODI World Cup of 2015. It was rather MS Dhoni who led the team into the semi-final of the tournament where they were beaten by the hosts Australia.
I perfected the art of bowling Yorkers while playing in small areas: Sreesanth
According to Sreesanth, what made him a good limited-overs bowler was the art of bowling yorkers which he had perfected while playing in small areas with the tennis ball.
The iconic moment of Sreesanth’s career was taking that catch of Misbah ul Haq at short fine leg to win the T20 World Cup for India in 2007, which started a golden period for Indian cricket.
