Former Australian head coach Justin Langer’s old video clip about never underestimating the Indians’ has been doing the rounds on social media portals.
During the 2021 calendar year, when Australia invited Team India for the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, Australia got off to a superb start to the series by drawing the first blood in the series.
Soon after India’s catastrophic failure in the Test opener, experts and former cricketers predicted that Australia would rip through the defence of India and then inflict a 4-0 whitewash.
Even Virat Kohli had to leave after the first Test due to personal reasons since he and his wife Anushka Sharma were expecting the arrival of their first child. Ajinkya Rahane took charge as the captain of the series.
Throwback: When Justin Langer said never underestimate the Indians
Ajinkya Rahane and Co worked beyond the bounds of possibility and literally turned things around after the first Test match. On this day on January 19, 2021, Indians scripted history as they went on to win the series by 2-1 including a historic win at Australia’s fortress, The Gabba.
After the series, the cricket fraternity were taken aback by India’s terrific and memorable comeback in the history of Test cricket. Justin Langer who was the head coach of Australian cricket at that time said it was a big lesson for them before adding that never underestimate the Indians.
When Ajinkya Rahane led the injury-plagued Indian side, which was a second-string team, it seemed like they wouldn’t make it in the first place. However, they braved the challenges that came across their way and won the series by 2-1.
Indian players showcased a lion-hearted performance in all aspects of the game and which is why they were able to bring the best out of themselves in clutch moments of the game.
The likes of Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, Mohammed Siraj and others lived up to their reputation in the Test series.
