‘I Have Decided To Go For A Shorter Format’-Chris Gayle Has Decided To Skip CPL For The 6ixty Event This Year

Chris Gayle, a batter for the West Indies, has decided not to participate in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 to shift his attention to the ‘6ixty’ event, a ten-over competition that will be held in St. Kitts from August 24 to 28, shortly before the CPL 2022 edition. A press statement was released by the left-handed batsman on June 28 (Tuesday), in which he discussed his choice.

It is important to bring to your attention that Gayle has been given the role of ambassador for the 6ixty. In the first-ever edition of the competition, all six men’s CPL teams and all three women’s CPL teams will compete against one another. Players from the host country as well as players from other countries are anticipated to take part in the competition.

This year, I’ve decided to go with a more condensed format: According to a statement made by Gayle

After scoring 2519 runs at an average of 36.50 and a strike rate of 133.13, Chris Gayle is the second top run-scorer in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), behind only Lendl Simmons. “This year, I’ve decided to go with a more shorter format. I can’t tell you how happy I am about the recent advancements in the sixty, and I can’t wait to see how they pan out. I am looking forward to the mystery team ball and hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls to unlock the third powerplay over,” Gayle said in a media release.

In further discussion of sixty, it has been decided that each side would get 10 overs to bat throughout their respective innings. However, in comparison to the standard ten-over match, several rules and regulations have been altered. Each team will be given only six wickets instead of ten, and a floating third powerplay will be unlocked if the batting team manages to hit two sixes during the first two-over powerplay.

Instead of switching ends after each over, the fielding side will be permitted to bowl for a total of five consecutive overs from the same end. If the ten overs are not completed within the stipulated time of forty-five minutes, a fielder will be removed from the field for the remaining six balls of the innings. The fans will be able to vote for a “mystery-free hit,” which means that they will have an active role in the games as well.
