‘I didn’t bowl as well as I might have, but that happens occasionally’-Adam Zampa talks about his performance after his match-winning 5-wicket haul against New Zealand

Adam Zampa, an Australian spinner, took his first five wickets in ODI cricket, which contributed to Australia’s victory in the Chappell-Hadlee series in 2022.

After defeating New Zealand in the second one-day international of the Chappell-Hadlee series in 2022 by 113 runs, Australia has successfully defended their Chappell-Hadlee title. The opening match of the series was won by Australia, with a score of 2 wickets. This victory has given Australia an insurmountable lead in the series.

The surface at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns was a challenging one, and as a result, batters from both teams were unable to produce a significant number of runs. In the first innings, Australia was able to collect 191 runs, led by Steve Smith’s knock of 61 runs, and with contributions from Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa at the close of the innings.

The Blackcaps’ batting simply could not get going, as they lost Martin Guptill’s wicket in the very first over of the game. The other batters all went in the same direction as Guptill, and as a result, the team was only able to score 82 runs. On Sunday, the exact same location will play host to the last One-Day International match.

The Australian spinner, Adam Zampa, performed at a really high level throughout the match. This was Zampa’s first ever 5-wicket haul in an ODI, and he did it while only allowing his opponents to score 35 runs. Zampa felt that he did not execute to his full potential throughout the match, even though he had a stellar performance overall. He said that it was a challenging surface to bat on at the venue.

Zampa was keen to acknowledge the contributions of his other bowlers after their victory. The leg-spinner said that he was able to capitalize on opportunities created by the pressure that the other bowlers applied. Mitchel Starc was able to take a handful of wickets for Australia, and as a result of his outstanding all-around effort, he was recognized as the Man of the Match.

What did Adam Zampa say?

“I didn’t bowl as well as I might have, but that happens occasionally. We obviously put up a total that is on par with other teams. It was a challenging surface for batting on. The players up front maintained a high level of discipline, which allowed me to enjoy the benefits of their efforts,” said Zampa after the game.

Zampa has been leading the spin attack for the Australian team in both of the white-ball formats, and he will play an important role in the defense of Australia’s title in the Twenty20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia this year.
