“I can’t bat with you, you run ones and twos, I don’t,” Glenn Maxwell tells Virat Kohli in RCB dressing room

Glenn Maxwell got run out in last night's IPL game against CSK while Virat Kohli was trying to take a quick single

Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell are two completely different types of batsmen, particularly in the shortest format of the game. While Virat likes to rotate the strike a lot and likes to run a lot of quick singles and doubles, Maxwell likes to play the big shots rather than indulging himself in quick running between the wickets too much.

Since the time Maxwell has started playing for RCB, it happens quite often that he and Virat find themselves at the crease together because both of them bat in the top 4. It happened yesterday again in the game against CSK where Virat opened the innings for RCB, while Maxwell batted at no. 3.

But, with Kohli trying to take quick singles by tapping the ball in the inner circle, there was always that danger of runout and it eventually resulted in the runout of Glenn Maxwell as he couldn’t keep up with the speed of Kohli on one occasion.

Kohli tapped the ball towards the offside and took off for the non-striker’s end. An accurate throw from the short cover-point position meant that the bails were taken off by the CSK wicketkeeper MS Dhoni before Maxwell could make his ground at the striker’s end and RCB lost a key wicket at a crucial juncture of the game.

Virat Kohli didn’t look very happy with the comment of Glenn Maxwell

Virat himself also failed to convert his start into a big one as he got out soon after Maxwell run out. The former RCB skipper was cleaned up by Moeen Ali with a big off-spinning delivery that went through between his bat and pad.

Although RCB eventually managed to get to the par score of 170 odd and won the game by 13 runs as well, Maxwell, at the end of the game, told Kohli in a light manner that he couldn’t bat with him because of his tendency of quick running. He doesn’t like to bat that way.

In a video of the RCB dressing room, which is going viral on Twitter right now, Glenn Maxwell can be seen clearly telling Kohli, “I can’t bat with you, you run too fast. You take ones and twos, I don’t”. Virat, in that video, doesn’t seem overly impressed by Maxwell’s remark, but he didn’t respond back.
