The RCB captain Faf du Plessis has made it clear that he is willing to play for South Africa even now in white-ball cricket and his international retirement is only limited to test cricket, but he has admitted that Cricket South Africa (CSA) seems to have moved on from him.
According to Faf du Plessis, his availability is there, but CSA has a different standpoint about him and his inclusion in the team and they have gone in a different direction on this whole matter.
Faf du Plessis has been scoring runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and other franchise competitions quite regularly in the last couple of years and almost all the pundits and the former players were of the opinion that he should have been a part of South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad last year in UAE.
But, it was only because of his differences with the CSA that Du Plessis wasn’t picked for the showpiece tournament and although South Africa performed well without him, a lot of fans were still unhappy about his exclusion.
CSA wanted Faf du Plessis to be available to play for South Africa the whole year
The issue of dispute between Du Plessis and CSA was the fact that CSA wanted Du Plessis to be available to play for South Africa the whole year, while Du Plessis reportedly wanted to pick and choose the international games and in between those, he also wanted to play the franchise leagues he wished to.
CSA was not ready to allow him that liberty and that was the reason why even though he was one of the best T20 batsmen in the country, he didn’t find a place in South Africa’s national squad for the last T20 World Cup. But in an interview with Cricbuzz recently, Du Plessis has expressed his desire to play for South Africa again.
Now, it remains to be seen if the South African selectors consider Du Plessis for the upcoming T20I games and the T20 World Cup in Australia which has to take place later this year.
