“Kane Williamson is not even near”, Gautam Gambhir rates the Fab 4 of world cricket in the T20 format

The comparison between the fab 4 of the game of cricket happens a lot. Now, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has joined the party. In one of the recent interactions, he talked about Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Stev Smith and Joe Root. Here, we take a look as Gautam Gambhir rates the Fab 4 of world cricket in the T20 format

Fab 4 in world cricket

The fab 4 of cricket comprises Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Joe Root. Often, there are comparisons done between the four players. In recent years, though, Joe Root has been at the top of the list, mainly due to his performances in the Test format. Virat Kohli was the most struggling of the lot. However, in the T20 format, it is Virat who stands at the top right now.

Speaking about the same, Gautam Gambhir said, “We talk about Fab 4 in cricket, but see Kane Williamson is not even near Virat Kohli in the strike rate aspect. Steve Smith cannot make place in the starting XI, and Joe Root isn’t even in the squad”. While Virat is leading India to multiple victories, Kane Williamson is struggling to make runs. Steve Smith is not part of the XI while Joe Root is far from the T20I squad.

Virat Kohli is in top form

The last few months had not been great for Virat Kohli. There were even calls to drop him from the playing XI. Many even counted him as a ‘finished’ cricketer. However, overriding all of these, Virat has turned out to become one of the most important players for India in the T20I format. He is the leading run-scorer for India now in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Against Pakistan, when India was at 31-4, it almost looked impossible to win the match. Virat, though, had other ideas. He took the game deep and with some stunning hits in the end, he changed the game on its head. Against the Netherlands and Bangladesh, too, Virat scored fifties and was vital to the team’s wins. The management will hope that the former Indian skipper will maintain the same form in the coming weeks.
