The race for the IPL 2023 playoffs is getting more and more intense. Teams are curiously waiting to showcase their mettle in the games when it matters the most in order to be on the safer side.
So far, Gujarat Titans, the defending champions were the only team that qualified for the IPL 2023 playoffs. Apart from that, other teams are absolutely making sure that they can crack the code.
Now in this article, we will take a look at how Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians can qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. First of all, Royal Challengers Bangalore have played 12 games so far.
They have won six games and lost the remaining six games. Currently, they are placed at the fifth spot in the IPL 2023 points table with a Net Run Rate of +0.166. They have so far collected 12 points from the league stage.
They have two more games in hand. RCB will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the away fixture at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad tonight. After that, they will take on Gujarat Titans in the home fixture at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 21.
How can RCB and MI qualify for the playoffs?
RCB will have to win the next two games in order to have a big shot at qualifying for the playoffs. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians’ chances of making it to the playoffs took a hit after they lost to Lucknow Super Giants on May 16.
As things stand, Mumbai Indians are currently placed at the fourth spot in the IPL 2023 points table. They have played 13 games so far and have won seven games and lost six games with a Net Run Rate of -0.128.
Mumbai Indians have mustered 14 points so far, with one more game to be played. MI will qualify for the playoffs if they beat SRH and get to 16 points. Yes, even if RCB and PBKS reach 16 points by winning their next two games, MI can still qualify for the playoffs if they have a better Net Run Rate.
In case RCB manage to win only one game out of the two games, they will end up at 14 points. They can still qualify with 14 points but they will have to rely on other results. For example, Mumbai Indians need to lose their last game whereas PBKS need to lose at least one of their two games.
