The Australian national cricket team are locking horns with the West Indies national cricket team in the first of the two-match Test series. The game is currently being held at Perth Stadium, Perth.
Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. Aussies are well aware of the conditions at home and will be looking to post a formidable total on the board in the first innings.
The visitors got off to a superb start to the game in the form of Jayden Seales after the latter got rid of dangerous David Warner for just 9 runs. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja steadied the ship.
The right and left-hand combination did the trick for the hosts as they added 142 runs for the second wicket before Khawaja departed for a well-made 65 including five boundaries and a six.
Marnus Labuschagne continues his Midas touch at home in Tests by scoring his 8th Test century
Meanwhile, Marnus Labuschagne scored a half-century during the partnership and after the departure of Khawaja, Marnus took his batting to the next level by scoring his eighth Test century.
He constructed his innings with the help of 14 fours and a maximum and is en route to scoring 150 runs. It remains to be seen how the right-handed batter would go about his business on the first day of the first Test.
Marnus Labuschagne has had a distinguished cricketing career so far, aggregating 2671 runs at a superb batting average of 56.83, making a strong case for himself that he is truly one of the best Test specialists for the team.
Talking about his statistics, he has smashed eight centuries, thirteen half-centuries followed by a double century. The star batsman registered his individual best score of 215 against New Zealand.
Australia scored 264/2 in 80 overs. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith are batting on 132* and 52* respectively.
