The England men’s cricket team needs a new head coach after Chris Silverwood’s exit. The English side is undergoing a transition now as the selection committee has decided to ignore the experienced players and give chances to youngsters. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may appoint a new head coach soon, and Shane Warne has put his name forward to take up the position.
Warne has worked as a coach for the Rajasthan Royals IPL franchise in the past. He has a lot of experience of playing in England, which is why the ECB could consider him for the position.
At the moment, former England cricket team captain Paul Collingwood is serving as the interim coach of the men’s squad. He will be with the team during their tour of the West Indies.
It will be interesting to see if Shane Warne gets a chance to become the next head coach of the England cricket team. Here’s what the retired Australian spinner said on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast:
“I’d like to do it, it’s a great time to be England coach. I think I’d do a pretty good job, there’s a lot to work with.”
Shane Warne was not happy with England’s tactics during the Ashes series
Shane Warne was a member of the commentary panel during the Ashes series earlier this year. He was not satisfied with England’s team management’s decisions. Pointing out how they rested James Anderson for a crucial match, Warne said:
“It was green and seaming all over the place and the best seam bowler in the world in Jimmy Anderson, they’re resting him.”
James Anderson and Stuart Broad recently lost their place in the England Test squad. It will be interesting to see if they are recalled when the ECB appoints a new head coach for the team.
