Five Australian bowlers who made IPL their very own forte

IPL had a special proclivity for their star bowlers who can change the game on their own

The IPL is in its 16th edition, getting bigger with every season. T20 is a game mostly dominated by the batters but its the bowlers who are more often than not found to win it for their teams.

The Australians have made their presence felt in the IPL since its inception with some staggering performances. Be it the batters, bowlers or the allrounders, the Aussies have lit the stage of the IPL in every discipline of the game. Here we would look at 5 Australian bowlers who have made a great impact on the tournament.

#1 Shane Watson

The former Aussie all-rounder played 145 matches in the IPL for 3 teams- Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings.

He is a right-handed batter and a Right-hand medium pace bowler. He has picked up 92 wickets giving away 2682 runs at an average of 29.15. His best bowling figures are for the CSK against the Gujarat Lions when he picked up 4 wickets for 29.

#2 Mitchell Starc

It is a name that is feared by batters all around the world. He is known for his toe-crushing yorkers and had a brief stint in the IPL. He began his IPL career with the Royal Challengers Bangalore only in 2014 only after becoming the spearhead for Australia across all formats.

He has played 27 matches for RCB taking 34 wickets giving 693 runs at an average of 20.38. His best figures are 15/4 for the RCB. He parted ways with RCB in 2017 to focus on his international career

#3 Pat Cummins

The right-arm pace bowler is the premier strike bowler for the Kangaroos in the recent years, winning the World Cup in 2015( though he played two matches and did well). He debuted in the IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 but was not utilized properly.

He was bought by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2017 IPL. He became the highest paid overseas cricketer in the IPL when he went for ₹ 15.5cr to return to the KKR. In 42 matches, he has scalped 45 wickets at an average of 30.16.

#4 Josh Hazlewood

This tall right arm fast medium bowler is often compared to the great Glenn McGrath due to his accuracy. He was bought by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2020 season.

In the IPL 2022 mega auction, he was picked up by the RCB. He has played 24 matches picking up 32 wickets at an average of 22.94 with 25/4 being his best performance.

#5 Nathan Coulter-Nile

The right arm fast bowler has been part of the IPL since 2013. He played for the Mumbai Indians in his first year in the tournament and then went to Delhi Daredevils. He was Delhi Daredevils’ joint highest wicket taker in 2015.

Subsequently he played for KKR in 2017. He was picked up by RCB in 2018 for ₹2.2 cr. He took 5 wickets in 7 games for MI in 2020. He was bought by MI again in 2021 for ₹5cr. He has 48 scalps from 39 matches at an average of 22.92.
