“Eoin Morgan deserves a proper farewell” Twitter reacts to the news of Morgan’s untimely retirement from the sport

After revolutionizing England’s white-ball game completely with his 7-year-long captaincy tenure, Eoin Morgan is set to retire from International cricket tomorrow, which will draw the curtains on a stellar white-ball career in which he scored over 10,000 runs across ODIs and T20Is.

Morgan took the captaincy reins from Alastair Cook just before the 2015 World Cup but could not go on to win the title. Nevertheless, Morgan and coach Trevor Bayliss, assembled a battery of power hitters that routinely accumulated 300+ scores, who went to win the 2019 ODI CWC.

Morgan has lately been struggling with his form and has been out of runs since long, therefore he is wondering to pass the captaincy baton to his favourite mate, Jos Buttler. “He obviously feels like he’s done with international cricket, and the team for him still comes first, which just shows how unselfish he is. He’s done a remarkable job and he’s the best we’ve ever had, for sure”, Moeen Ali told the BBC’s Test Match Special.

Though Morgan had a good run in 2020 and 2021, his form has been a matter of concern thereafter. Nevertheless, his teammates and fans wanted him to have at least leaded the team till the 2023 WC.

Twitter reacts to Eoin Morgan’s unexpected retirement news.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions to this news:

Reacting to the news ahead of the final day’s play of the Headingly Test, Nasser Hussain, the former England captain, told Sky Sports: “Eoin Morgan has been the most influential white-ball cricketer England have ever had. He’s been our best white-ball captain, and he has been a fantastic player. And he gave us the best moment in English white-ball cricket that we’ve ever had, at Lord’s. It was an incredible day, an incredible finale, and a lot of it was down to the skipper.”

It’s not decided who will lead the English team for the white-ball format but its Jos Buttler who is being named everyone’s favourite for the role.
