“Bro wanna score 1000 in one innings”, Twitter reacts as Suryakumar Yadav hopes to get the Test cap soon

Suryakumar Yadav, following a match-winning ton in the second T20I against New Zealand on Sunday, said he is optimistic he would get to play Test cricket for India soon.

India took a commanding 1-0 series lead over New Zealand because of the right-hander’s unbroken 111 off 51 balls at Mount Maunganui.

Suryakumar, who now sits atop the men’s T20I batting rankings, has had a remarkable year in the shortest version of the game. And with his recent performances, he’s hoping to be called up for Tests very soon.

Promoted to No 3 in the batting order in the absence of Virat Kohli, the 32-year-old delivered a brilliant innings to help India end with 191/6. In reply, the hosts were bowled out for 126.

He has been on fire as of late and is the best batsman in men’s Twenty20 Internationals. However, at age 32, he is something of a late bloomer on the global stage.

SKY, as he is generally called, also revealed he himself gets astonished by some of the shots he plays. The Mumbaikar is one of the few batters who can regularly pluck runs from all areas of the ground, and he has established a practice of playing bold strokes for boundaries.

In Sunday’s game at the Bay Oval, Suryakumar scored his last 64 runs in only 18 balls. In those innings, he hit 11 fours, and 7 sixes, and had a strike rate of 217.64. The right-handed batter pondered his current high level of self-assurance.

Suryakumar Yadav said, “I enjoy playing Test cricket, hopefully, I will get the Test cap soon”.

“Aa raha hain, woh (Test selection) bhi aa raha hain (it’s coming, that is also coming),” said Suryakumar with a smile when asked if that is around the corner.
