Todd Murphy bags a seven-wicket haul on debut against India in Nagpur

Debutant Todd Murphy so far has been a lone light for Australia at the end of a long tunnel in the ongoing first Test against India in Nagpur. On a pitch, where the visitors’ batting lineup struggled, the off-spinner was the biggest positive for them.

After Australia was bundled out for just 177 runs, a superlative effort was required from their end to restrict India to a low total. Although they failed to reduce them to a low total, but a superlative bowling effort was on the show as debutant Murphy lived up to his expectations.

Many eyeballs were raised when Murphy got a nod ahead of the Ashton Agar. But no one would dare to question the selection as such was his impact on the game. The off-spinner bagged a seven-wicket haul and entered the list of best bowling figures on debut.

Murphy drew the first blood for his side in KL Rahul and then didn’t look back as he sent the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Srikar Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammad Shami packing to return with the figures of 7/124 in 47 overs that he bowled.
