Suryakumar Yadav has seen a meteoric rise in his career ever since he made his debut for Team India back in 2021. His rise from being a rubber ball cricketer to one of the most dependable middle-order batsmen in the Indian national team is really inspiring.
It was as early as 2011 that Suryakumar Yadav got selected in Mumbai Indians. He even played one match for them but did not get a chance to bat. It was then that Kolkata Knight Riders bought him in IPL 2014 and under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, he started to shine.
Back then, Gautam Gambhir used Suryakumar Yadav as a finisher. He was pretty good at his job and he started showing the wide range of shots that he had in his plethora back then. However, Sky did not grow as a batsman during his time at KKR. That happened once he made his return to Mumbai Indians.
In 2018, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders made a swap between Nitish Rana and Suryakumar Yadav and Sky did not look back after that. Under the guidance of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav started to bat as an opener and then as a middle-order batsman and it was then that we could see his real potential.
Sky came out as a very aggressive top-order batsman and it was a profile that Team India was missing. After a career filled with struggle, he finally got his maiden call up to the National team in 2021 and he has been one of the main players of India in T20Is ever since.
Particularly in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, he has been the top batsman of India alongside Virat Kohli. Out of the 5 matches that India have played so far, he has been awarded Man of the Match of two matches.
