Riyan Parag is just 20-year old at the moment, but not only does he remain in news all the time because of his extraordinary talent, but he also remains in news because of his antics. He is the kind of young player who always grabs attention even when he is not performing that well.
Recently in the first qualifier game of IPL 2022 between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans, Ravichandran Ashwin was facing the last ball of the Rajasthan innings, while Riyan Parag was at the non-striker end. It turned out to be a wide delivery and Parag thought that Ashwin would perhaps try and run a bye off that wide ball to put him on strike.
But, Ashwin didn’t even move from his place and stood his ground. In fact, he didn’t even notice that Riyan Parag was racing towards the striker’s end and noticed it only when Parag was right beside him. The Gujarat wicketkeeper threw the ball to the non-striker end and it turned out to be an easy runout, which didn’t quite amuse Parag.
Even though Ashwin was a senior player, Parag gave him a bit of glare before leaving the ground and he explained the story while he was talking about his IPL experience recently on a gaming platform Rooter.
Ashwin was not batting with a tail-ender: Riyan Parag
According to Riyan Parag, since Ashwin was batting with a specialist batsman like him, he should have tried to run and put him on strike. He could have stayed on strike himself if he was batting with a tail-ender, but not when a specialist batsman at the other end was trying to run to get back on strike and face the last ball.
Parag revealed that Ashwin came to him later and apologized for that incident because he also realized that he should have run.
