The former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra doesn’t think that the seasoned medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar should be a part of the Indian squad for the next T20 World Cup which will be played in Australia. Bhuvneshwar has struggled with his form in limited over cricket recently, but the new Indian captain Rohit Sharma has still picked him in the playing XI in most of the games.
Ashish Nehra is of the view that it’s fair for Rohit to back Bhuvneshwar because of what he has done in the past for India in white ball cricket, but going forward, India will have to focus more on bowlers who have got a bit of pace and can generate a bit of bounce as well, because those kind of bowlers will be more successful on Australian surfaces.
Right now, the way the new Indian team management is picking the playing XI in T20 cricket, it seems they want to prefer those fast bowlers who can bat a bit so that India has some depth in batting, rather than picking bowlers simply for their bowling skills because it will elongate the tail.
Nehra, however, is not a complete advocate of that theory and he believes that out and out fast bowlers like Siraj, Shami and Prasidh should be in the mix and India should have one fast bowling allrounder in Deepak Chahar to go with it.
Ashish Nehra wants out and out fast bowlers for T20 World Cup
Nehra, who is now the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, was speaking on Cricbuzz where he was asked about the fast bowlers he would pick for the T20 World Cup and he didn’t include Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the list.
The fast bowlers that Nehra wants to be in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup are Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, because all of them are quick.
It remains to be seen if the Indian team management goes with Bhuvneshwar in the second T20I game against West Indies later today. In the first T20I, they had the choice to play Siraj or Avesh Khan, who is another out and out quick, but they went with Bhuvneshwar and Deepak Chahar.
