Royal Challengers Bangalore are one of the top teams in India’s premier T20 competition. Despite boasting a squad that is blend with youth and experience, they still haven’t cultivated a title-winning template.
RCB are also one of the very few teams that are yet to taste the glory since the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. Moreover, they have been to the finals on three occasions but failed to win it.Β
They are also the only team that haven’t won the title despite making three final appearances. RCB lost the first final to Deccan Chargers (now defunct IPL team) in the IPL 2009 final.
RCB spent most money on IPL salaries than any other team in IPLΒ
In the IPL 2011 final, Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with Chennai Super Kings. However, MS Dhoni and Co had the last laugh in the battle. RCB also had a chance to win their first title after they made it to the finals of IPL 2016 season.
As it turned out, they surrendered at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Since then, RCB haven’t brought the best out of themselves. There was a sudden change in terms of captaincy as Virat Kohli stepped down as RCB captain post the IPL 2021 season.
RCB recruited the services of Faf du Plessis at the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru for a price tag of INR 7 crore. Under his captaincy, RCB made it to the playoffs by finishing fourth on the points table. They also defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator.Β
However, they failed to come out on top while locking with Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, RCB spent the most money compared to other teams since IPL 2008. They paid a staggering amount of Rs 910.5 crore on players. Meanwhile, Herschelle Gibbs trolled RCB on Twitter by writing, “and still no trophy” (despite spending most money on players).
RCB’s rivals CSK spent INR 761.1 crore on players whereas Mumbai Indians spent INR 884.5 crore on players. Kolkata Knight Riders spent INR 852.5 crore whereas Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings spent INR 826.6 crore and INR 778.3 crore respectively.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals spent INR 646.9 crore and INR 613.3 crore whereas the two new franchises – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans spent Rs 89.2 crore and Rs 88.3 crore respectively.
