All-time best Delhi Capitals XI in the IPL history
Delhi Capitals, who were earlier known as Delhi Daredevils are one of the three franchises that haven’t won the IPL trophy so far. They made the Finals in IPL 2020 and were looking good in IPL 2021 before it got suspended, but haven’t managed to lift the IPL trophy. Delhi Capitals had a good XI in the starting years from 2008 to 2010. From 2013 to 2018, they never qualified for the playoffs.
Since 2019, Delhi Capitals have been brilliant as they have finished in the top four consistently. But DC is one of those teams which has let go of many good players. The list is never-ending, and an XI can be made from the players Delhi Capitals have let go of. So let us have a look at the all-time best Delhi Capital’s XI in IPL history.
Openers – David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan
The David-Dhawan combo which worked so well for Sunrisers Hyderabad can be the opening combination for the all-time Delhi Capitals XI. David Warner came into the Delhi franchise when he wasn’t even playing international cricket. Warner played 55 matches for Delhi Capitals and scored 1435 runs with a century to his name.
Shikhar Dhawan, an earlier part of the Delhi franchise, made his comeback to this team in 2019 when he was traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since 2019, Shikhar has been in great form in the IPL as he has scored over 500 runs consistently. This would be the perfect combo for the all-time Delhi Capitals XI.
Middle-order – Gautam Gambhir, AB De Villiers, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant
AB De Villiers who is one of the greatest batsmen to have ever played the game was part of the Delhi Capitals franchise. De Villiers played 28 games for Delhi and scored a century in one of those. Gautam Gambhir who led Kolkata Knight Riders twice to the title was the captain of the Delhi franchise for a couple of years. He led the team in 2010 and then again in 2018 when he left midway through the season.
Shreyas Iyer has been a brilliant young player for DC as he has scored runs and led from the front. Both Iyer and Pant have only played for Delhi Capitals and not any other team. They have been the backbone of the DC team over the last 3-4 years and will continue to do so. Two right-handers and two left-handers make a good middle-order for the Delhi Capitals’ all-time XI.
All-rounder – Axar Patel
Axar Patel, the Emerging Player of the season in IPL 2014 has been part of the Delhi Capitals team since 2019. They bought him in the 2019 IPL Auction and since then he has been performing well for them. He was brilliant in the 2020 IPL season which took place in the UAE and even in a couple of matches he played this season he looked good.
He is the perfect all-rounder where he can give you four tight overs and then smash a few runs towards the end of an innings. He has been of great value, and so he should be the all-rounder in the Delhi Capitals all-time XI.
Bowlers – Kagiso Rabada, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, and Glenn McGrath
Four high-quality bowlers should be part of the Delhi Capitals’ all-time XI. Kagiso Rabada can cover the death overs while Zaheer Khan and Glenn McGrath are the perfect new ball bowlers in any format. Both of them did well for DC whenever they played.
Amit Mishra has been the most underrated bowler in the history of the IPL as he is the second-highest wicket-taker in the league. At the age of 38, he bowled a match-winning spell against Mumbai Indians at Chennai in IPL 2021. These four make the perfect bowling combination for a T20 XI.
