Two records that Steve Smith can break in Ashes 2023

Steve Smith is an iconic striker of the cherry and can turn the game head on

In less than a couple of months from now, the cricketing world would be gearing up to welcome not one but two grand events that would take the world by storm. One of them is the WTC final that will be played at the Oval between India and Australia to seal the fate of the crown. Following the grand event, one of the age-old rivalries, the Ashes 2023 would kickstart itself as two ancient rivals of the sport, England and Australia will be going at each other’s jugulars without any mercy at all.

There will be a lot of big names in action that would try and take on each other, hoping to settle the scores momentarily. Steven Smith would be a massive name in the ranks of the Australia squad and given the illustrious batter that he is, he will be taking on the responsibility of leading the Australian charge with the willow in his arms. Here are two records that he can break in the upcoming edition of the Ashes.

#1 Steve Smith can become the second-highest centurion in the history of the tournament in Ashes 2023 itself

Australia’s ace batter, Steve Smith is just a couple of centuries away from raging past the big name of Hobbs who has so far managed to pile up 12 centuries. Steve Smith has managed to smash 11 centuries in the history of the tournament.

With 5 matches to be played, Steve Smith can very well cross the record of Hobbs as he is well en route to rack up 13 centuries in the antiquity of Ashes.

#2 Steve Smith can become the second-highest half-centurion in the Ashes

Once again as Don Bradman holds the record of 31 half centuries to lead the queue with the highest number of fifties in the tournament, it is almost impossible for Steve Smith to break it and get past but then again mathematically speaking, this is also a chance.

But then keeping in mind the mathematical reality, this can be the chance for Steve Smith to get past the likes of Steve Waugh, Sutcliffe, Border and Hobbs again to become the man with the second highest number of half centuries. He currently has 22 fifties.
