When it comes to any format of the sport, the Australians have been a reckoning force forever. Talking about domination unparalleled, the IPL is no exception to the aforementioned maxim. There have been countless records with the bat in the tournament but when it comes to bowling, the names are rare but significant enough to create havoc.
Not many countries can boast about producing bowlers barring India of course, who have registered multiple five-fers in the IPL. However, Australia actually has notched up that feet as they have three bowlers who have claimed this feat and more importantly one of them have done this twice. Here are the three Australian bowlers who managed to wreak absolute havoc on their given days.
James Faulkner – 5 for 16 and 5 for 20
The all-rounder who was deemed as one of the biggest rising sensations in cricket in the preceding decade also had his stamp of authority in the IPL as well. James Faulkner is the only Australian who bagged 2 fifers and rocked the bowling roster. His first fifer came in 2013 for Rajasthan Royals as he registered figures of 4-1-16-5. He bagged the crucial scalps of Parthiv Patel, Shikhar Dhawan, Biplab Samantray, Daren Sammy and Dale Steyn. His second fifer surprisingly came against the same opposition of Sunrisers Hyderabad, bagging the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Kumar Sangakkara, Karn Sharma, Daren Sammy and Amit Mishra. This time he conceded 20 runs from his 4 overs.
Adam Zampa – 6 for 19
Playing for Rising Pune Super Giants, Adam Zampa weaved a web of mystery around the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the kind of form that he was in saw him claiming crucial scalps that left the latter reeling in agony. Zampa’s hallowed exploits included the likes of Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Andrew Tye – 5 for 17
Another talent that has somehow rubbed shoulders way too frequently with mediocrity was deemed as the next big thing in Australian cricket. In 2017, he managed to claim a fifer where he bagged the big wickets of Rahul Tripathi, Ben Stokes, Manoj Tiwary, Ankit Sharma and Shardul Thakur while playing for the Gujarat Lions.
