India’s batting line-up has been inconsistent in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. It has been the lower order that has stepped up for the side. Axar Patel’s displays have been brilliant in BGT 2023
Axar Patel’s start to his career has been great so far. With the ball, he was hard to be displaced in his debut series. Yes, the returns have reduced for him with the ball but that is mainly because R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been bowling in full flow.
That said, Axar has compensated for that with his performances in the batting department. At Nagpur, he scored 84 runs and then, in Delhi, he made a good 74-run knock. He was unbeaten in both innings in Indore. Later, in Ahmedabad, he helped India with yet another fifty and this time, he took the attack to the bowlers with some big hits, which added a lot of impact to the scorecard. Going forward, it won’t be a surprise if Axar starts to get a chance higher up in the batting order. Since he is a left-hander and because Rishabh Pant is absent for a while, Axar’s contribution can come in at No.5 or No.6 based on the context of the game.

When he started out in Test, Axar failed with the bat in the first few games. Many felt that he would not be reliable with the willow in the red-ball format. However, Axar has come back strongly, scoring some important impact runs for the side. Especially in the ongoing BGT, the Gujarat all-rounder has been exceptional.
