Team India displayed a staggering performance with bat and ball in the first Test as they thumped Bangladesh by 188 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Batting first, it was a horrendous start for them as they were reduced to 48/3 with KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli back in the hut.

But the fifties from Cheteshwar Pujara (90), Shreyas Iyer (86), R Ashwin (58) and forties from Rishabh Pant (46) and Kuldeep Yadav (40) bailed them out of trouble to post a total in excess of 400 runs.

Their batting performance was complemented by a staggering bowling effort by Kuldeep Yadav, who took a five-wicket haul, to bundle out Bangladesh for just 150 runs.

India then decided to bat again and centuries from Shubman Gill (110) and Cheteshwar Pujara (102*) took them to a total of 258 runs, setting Bangladesh the target of 513 runs. The hosts then made visitors toil hard but Indian bowlers kept chipping in at regular intervals.

Axar Patel (4/77) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/73) combined to pick 7 wickets and bowl out the opposition for 324 runs to win the game by 188 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the series. For Bangladesh, Zakir Hasan (100), Najmul Shanto (66) and Shakib Al Hasan (84) toiled hard but couldn’t take their team across the line.
