The Australian opening batsman David Warner has penned a heartfelt note for the Sri Lankan citizens after completing the Sri Lanka tour where he featured for Australia in all three formats of the game.
The tour was very tightly contested as Australia won the T20I series by 2-1, but then Sri Lanka came roaring back with a 3-2 triumph in the ODI series. The test series, which was the last assignment of the tour for the Kangaroos, started with their victory in the first test but concluded with an innings defeat in the second test and the series eventually ended up 1-1.
David Warner played a couple of good knocks on the tour, mainly in white-ball games, but he didn’t really have as fluent a run with the bat as he would have liked. Warner, however, was still happy that he got the opportunity to entertain the Sri Lankan public when there was such a tense political atmosphere in the country.
Apart from David Warner, Australian captain Pat Cummins also praised the spirit of Sri Lankan public
According to David Warner, what really impressed him about the Sri Lankan public is the fact that they, as a nation, are going through an incredibly tough time, but the way they turned up in the stadiums game after game and cheered for their team with a big smile on their faces was remarkable.
The Australian captain Pat Cummins also praised the spirit of the Sri Lankan public for the passion that they showed for their beloved game of cricket in spite of the huge crisis that their country has been going through.
David Warner wrote at the end of his note, which he posted on his Instagram account, that Sri Lanka is such a beautiful country and the Sri Lankan people are so hospitable that one day he would like to visit this place not as a cricketer, but as a tourist for a vacation with his family.
