‘Right Now, The Plan Against Him Is Pretty Simple’-Parthiv Patel Feels That The Indian Star’s Place In The Team Is In Trouble Due To His Inability
Parthiv Patel, who used to keep wickets for India, thinks Shreyas Iyer should fix his problems with the short ball as soon as possible.
Iyer’s weakness against short-pitched bowling hasn’t changed, as he’s still been beaten by it during the England tour. The same kind of delivery also got him out in the third T20I at Trent Bridge on Sunday, July 10.
The bowler’s best way to get rid of a middle-order batter is to throw a bouncer. Iyer is very good at facing spin bowlers, but he has not yet mastered short-pitched pace bowling.
What did Parthiv Patel say?
On Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel said that Shreyas Iyer could have taken on more responsibility during the 119 runs partnership with Suryakumar Yadav:
He said: “He should have been more responsible, in my opinion. I think he is a better player than the way he is trying to move away and pull the ball. He could play better if he tried. He could decide which shot to take. Now, almost everyone knows that the bowler will hit him with a short ball.”
Patel added: “He has to decide if he wants to attack it or survive by taking singles. If he doesn’t, he will stay vulnerable.”
Iyer got 28 runs off of 23 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav exploded from the other end, getting 117 runs off of 55 balls. The 28-year-old was out when he was caught behind by Reece Topley’s bouncer in the 16th over. He was in an awkward position to play the ball.
“At this point, the plan against Shreyas Iyer is too clear” – RP Singh
Shreyas Iyer replaced Hardik Pandya in the Indian lineup after they had already won the series, but he never looked comfortable at the crease. Because he has trouble fascing fast bowling and because the T20 World Cup is in Australia, his spot in the team is in danger.
Former bowler RP Singh, who was also on the Cricbuzz Panel, thought that Iyer should try to change the strike when he faced a short ball.
“At this point, the plan against Shreyas Iyer is too clear. It’s not always possible to move outside the leg stump and hit short balls. I think he should try to get a single and not even try to get a boundary on those balls. If he doesn’t do that, his graph will soon go down.”
In the upcoming ODI series against England, Iyer will have another chance to fix his problems with short balls. The first ODI between the Men in Blue and England will take place at The Oval on Tuesday, July 12.
