The captaincy changes have been quite frequent in the year 2022. Since Eoin Morgan retired from international cricket earlier this month, the England cricket team needed a new player to lead the team in ODIs and T20Is. They have picked Jos Buttler, whom Morgan considers the best white-ball cricketer on the planet right now.
Buttler has been in tremendous form this year. He has scored runs for England at a quick rate and in IPL 2022, he won the Orange Cap title while playing for the Rajasthan Royals team. Fans should note that Buttler has captained the England cricket team in the ODI format before. Whenever Eoin Morgan was unavailable, Buttler would play the skipper’s role.
Even in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the Netherlands cricket team, Buttler played the captain’s role in the last ODI of the series. Informing the fans about Buttler’s promotion, ECB wrote in a statement:
“Jos Buttler has been appointed captain of the England Men’s white-ball teams by the England & Wales Cricket Board. He succeeds Eoin Morgan, who retired from international cricket earlier this week. The ECB Interim Chair, Martin Darlow, and Interim Chief Executive Officer, Clare Connor, approved the appointment on Wednesday evening following the recommendation by the Managing Director of Cricket, Rob Key.”
Fans on Twitter go berserk as Jos Buttler becomes the new captain of England in ODIs and T20Is
Eoin Morgan changed the mindset of England cricket in ODIs and T20Is, leading to the team creating new world records for the highest team total in ODIs. Fans think that England may become the first team to touch the 500-run mark when Buttler takes over the reins of the team.
Here are some of the top Twitter reactions to ECB’s decision of electing Buttler as their new skipper:
