5 players who are earning more in BCCI contract than IPL

There has been a long going debate between how the pay structures of the Indian Premier League and the BCCI Central Contracts are affecting the sport of cricket in the country, with many of the star players of the Indian team being paid way more in IPL than what they get from the BCCI. But there exists another breed of players, the ones who earn more from their BCCI contract when compared to their IPL salaries. So, here’s a look at 5 players who are earning more in BCCI contract than IPL.

1. Wriddhiman Saha

One of the best wicket keepers to have donned the gloves for India in recent years, Wriddhiman Saha is the first in the group of players who earn more in BCCI contracts than in the IPL.

Saha in the latest list of BCCI’s annual contract was rewarded with a B Grade, which gets him an income of Rs 3 Cr. On the other hand, in the Indian Premier League, Saha, playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the 2020 seasocontractcn was awarded a paycheck of Rs 1.2 Cr, which was carried over to 2021, making his earnings from BCCI, more than that of the IPL.

2. Shardul Thakur

A player whose story to the place in the households has been that of a proper struggle that started from a small town in Maharashtra and landed him in the Indian and Chennai Super Kings dressing room, Shardul Thakur is the second entrant in this list.

Having played 2 Tests, 15 ODIs and 21 T20 Internationals so far, Shardul is a regular feature in the Indian team, and the same is the case with him in IPL, where he is MS Dhoni’s go-to man when it comes to duties with the ball in hand. His BCCI contract though, which is worth Rs 3 Cr, ups his IPL contract with the Chennai Super Kings which is currently valued at Rs 2.6 Cr.

3. Ishant Sharma

If there was to be named a player who could be regarded as a literal workhorse when it came to the Indian team, Ishant Sharma would have his name right up at the top of the list.

A veteran pacer, though he does not play in limited over games for India, he is indeed an integral part of the Indian team’s Test setup. Despite the fact, he is one of the few rare players who have an IPL contract to their name, while being a part of India’s Test team only. He gets an annual salary of Rs 5 Cr from the BCCI, but his IPL contract falls short of that amount, which is valued at Rs 1.1 Cr now.

4. Deepak Chahar

The third pace bowler to feature in this list, Deepak Chahar joins his fellow Indian players in the list of those, who earn more from BCCI contract than IPL.

A rookie in the Indian team, while being a relatively experienced player in his IPL side, Chahar has shown a lot of promise at both levels, and for that, he is rewarded too. The BCCI, for retaining him, put him in the Grade C contract, granting him an annual income of Rs 1 Cr, while his IPL franchise, the Chennai Super Kings pay him Rs 80 Lakhs to play in the 2021 season of IPL.

5. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal announced his arrival on the international stage, by performing well against the likes of Australian bowlers in their backyard, but after that, there has been a rough patch for him, but that hasn’t made the BCCI, or his IPL franchise deter from backing him.

Under the Grade B Contract from the BCCI right now, he makes an amount of Rs 3 Cr, and while with his IPL franchise, the Punjab Kings, have shelled out Rs 1 Cr for having him in their team for IPL 2021.
