4 players who reversed their retirement decision in 2024

It is now a trend to reverse retirement decisions. Almost every year, we now have an ICC event. Depending on what the team needs and what the player’s mindset is, we witness a lot of players withdrawing their retirements. Sometimes, it has helped but sometimes, it has not. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of four talented players who reversed their retirement decision in 2024.

1) Ben Stokes – ODI

It was a surprise when Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket in 2022. However, he had to withdraw it ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

That said, the return of Ben Stokes did not help the team. England had a terrible campaign at the event. They qualified for the 2025 Champions Trophy by a whisker.

2) Moeen Ali – Test

With Jack Leach injured, England did not have an experienced spinner for the Ashes. Hence, Ben Stokes request Moeen Ali to take back his retirement.

In the tournament, Moeen had a decent run, picking some crucial wickets. Later, he said that he would not play Tests again. The focus of the cricketer will be the white-ball formats, especially the T20 format.

3) Tamim Iqbal – All Formats

Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from all forms of the game. It was a shock considering he was the captain of the team. However, at the request of the Bangladesh Prime Minister, Tamim withdrew his decision.

However, he was still dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup. This was because of his refusal to play in the middle-order. Shakib Al Hasan captained the side.

4) Manoj Tiwary – Domestic Cricket

Manoj Tiwary is one of the players who reversed their retirement decision in 2024. He initially announced his retirement from domestic cricket.

However, after the request of the West Bengal CM, Manoj Tiwary withdrew his decision. He will now play in the Ranji Trophy.
