3 young openers whom India must groom in Tests

Rohit Sharma is losing form in Tests and that is a big concern. Shubman Gill has been moved to No.3 and hence, there are no ready backups for the opening slot. In this regard, it is time that India starts grooming some youngsters for this slot. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three young openers whom India must groom in Tests.

1) B Sai Sudharsan

B Sai Sudharsan is one of the next big things in Indian cricket. He has already made his international debut and it would be a good consideration if he is picked for Tests, as well.

Sai surely has the temperament to succeed at the highest level. He has a calm head on his shoulders and that could be important for India at the top of the order. He is also someone who can operate at various slots in the batting order. Hence, he is a good choice.

2) Prithvi Shaw

Yes, his form might not be great and his fitness might not inspire confidence. However, when it comes to talent, there are not many young batters as good as Prithvi in India.

India must take him under the wings and ensure that he realizes his potential. There is a lot of talent to tap and it will be Team India that will miss out on a generational cricketer if they do not get the maximum out of Prithvi.

3) Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal is one of the young openers whom India must groom in Tests. Unlike Yashavi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal is someone who takes his time to get going. He is a bit conservative and actually, this could complement Jaiswal’s attacking approach.

After a long time, at the domestic level, Padikkal is back to form. He seems to have regained his old confidence back. Therefore, it might be a good idea to consider him for Tests, a format that could be suited to his style of batting.
