3 popular Australian captains who never won a Test in India

Australia happens to be one of the most dominant teams in world cricket. Although the domination has reduced in recent times, they still own plenty of records in Tests and ODIs. However, for the Aussies, winning Tests in India has been one of their difficult challenges. In fact, some of the popular skippers have also failed to win in India. On that note, here, we take a look at three popular Australian captains who never won a Test in India.

1) Allan Border – 3 Matches (3 Draws)

Allan Border is one of the most accomplished captains that Australia has seen. He skippered the nation in 93 Tests, winning 32 of them. It was a good phase for the Aussies in the red-ball format.

However, he could not get success against India in India. In the three games that he led the nation, he could not help Australia win even one encounter in India.

2) Ricky Ponting – 7 Matches (5 Losses and 2 Draws)

Ricky Ponting is one of the popular Australian captains who never won a Test in India. In the recent era, very few teams have had a dominant captain like Ricky Ponting. Especially in ODIs, Ponting holds an elite record of helping Australia win two World Cups.

However, against India in Indian conditions, Ponting has not enjoyed a good record. He toured India three times as a skipper but could not even get one win.

3) Michael Clarke – 3 Matches (3 Losses)

After the retirement of Ricky Ponting and while the player was in the last stages of his career, Clarke did a good job of leading Australia. He was the captain of the squad for 47 encounters. Out of this, he led the team to 24 wins.

While Clarke got good results when India toured Australia, it was not the same for the opposite case. In 2012/13, he was the captain of the touring nation but failed to win a game for his nation.
