3 players whose opportunities might reduce after Ishan Kishan’s double hundred

After a long time, Ishan Kishan got a chance in the Indian ODI XI. With Rohit Sharma injured, Ishan Kishan took his spot as the opener for the third ODI against Bangladesh. He grabbed the chance with both hands as Ishan made 210 runs in 131 balls. It was a stunning knock that could kickstart his ODI career. With such a solid performance, a few other cricketers might tend to lose their chances. On that note, here, we take a look at three players whose opportunities might reduce after Ishan Kishan’s double hundred.

1) Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan will be the most affected party due to Ishan Kishan’s scintillating knock. The veteran was in poor form against Bangladesh and overall, this year has not been memorable for him.

India needs players who can bat with a high strike rate in the top order. This is the demand of the modern ODI format. Dhawan has not been able to fulfil that and with Ishan doing exceptionally well, we could see the management drop Dhawan for future series.

2) Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is one of the players whose opportunities might reduce after Ishan Kishan’s double hundred. In ODIs, Pant has been in good form. However, the lack of confidence in T20Is could affect him. Before the series started, he was released from the ODI squad.

KL Rahul kept wickets in Pant’s absence and backup keeper Ishan was impressive with the bat. These two factors could result in Pant getting a lesser margin for failure. India will surely back him but Pant must respond immediately.

3) Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill was surprisingly not included in the ODIs against Bangladesh. He has been India’s backup opener for a while now. Now, with Ishan’s form, Gill could also face a few issues.

Although Gill’s consistency will be rewarded, like with Pant, Gill will also have to face the problem of not getting a very long rope. He has to continue with his performances to seal his spot in the ODI XI if Dhawan is dropped.
