Washington Sundar set to miss phase 2 of IPL 2021 – Reports

In a disappointing development for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise, the team’s star Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is expected to miss the second phase of IPL 2021. The reason behind it is the injury that he suffered while playing for County Select XI in a practice match against Team India.

Many fans would know by now that Washington Sundar will not be part of the Indian squad for the Test series against England. Team India will open their ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 in the United Kingdom next month with a 5-match series against the hosts. However, Sundar, who played a vital role in India’s success during the previous World Test Championship cycle, will miss the series.

As per reports, the finger injury that he has sustained will keep him out of the remaining games of IPL 2021, scheduled to happen in September and October. The United Arab Emirates will play host to the matches of IPL 2021. Washington Sundar had done well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous edition of league, played in the Middle East.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have used him as an all-rounder. He bats higher up the order. Also, he bowls in the powerplay overs. Since the pitches in the UAE will assist the spinners, RCB will miss the services of Washington.

How did Washington Sundar perform in Phase 1 of IPL 2021?

Washington Sundar played six matches for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first phase of IPL 2021. He scored 31 runs with the willow for the 3-time runners-up of the Indian Premier League. Also, he took three wickets with the ball.

In the absence of Washington Sundar, Adam Zampa and Yuzvendra Chahal will lead the spin attack of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Virat Kohli-led outfit also have the option of Shahbaz Ahmed, who had been a match-winner for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Phase 1 of IPL 2021.
