Pakistan shocked the world today with their sensational victory over New Zealand. The kiwis were considered to be the favourites in this match by everyone but the Babar Azam-led side defied all odds to defeat them and they have thus headed on to the Final which will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 13th November.
In the match that was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. The Pakistani pacers started dominating right from the beginning. Shaheen Afridi picked up the early wicket of Finn Allen with a sensational delivery and Devon Conway was adjudged run out after a great throw by Shadab Khan. Glenn Phillips too failed to last long as he fell prey to Mohammad Nawaz. All the responsibility was then upon New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell.
They managed to score pretty decent runs but the strike rate was too low and thus New Zealand could put up a mere total of only 152 runs in 20 overs despite only losing 4 wickets.
Coming in to chase, Pakistan seemed to have no problem at all. It was only after a centurion opening partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam that New Zealand picked up their first wicket but by then it was too late. Pakistan made a few hiccups but they ended up winning the match easily in the end.
After the match, everyone started praising Pakistan for their performance. Even West Indies legend Ian Bishop could not help but write the following words on twitter: “2am here in Sydney and finding it impossible to. Still amazed at how Pakistan do these things.”
Pakistan will now face either England or India in the final. Fans are eagerly anticipating an India vs Pakistan final. If that indeed takes place, the match will be nothing short of historic.
