2 players KKR can target in IPL 2023 auction

Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the top teams in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. The Knight Riders have won as many as two titles since the inception of India’s premier T20 competition. The franchise won both titles under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

KKR won their first title by beating Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2012 final and went on to win their second title by beating Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the IPL 2014 final.

Since then, KKR haven’t been able to make a real case for themselves as title contenders. They made it to the finals of the competition again in the IPL 2021 edition but surrendered at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.

KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season as they ended up in seventh place in the IPL 2022 points table. However, they will be targeting the top players in the upcoming auction. Now, in this article, we will take a look at the two players KKR will target in the next auction.

1. Curtis Campher

The two-time IPL champions have already retained Andre Russell ahead of the mini-auction but the major drawback is that he is prone to injury and one must note that KKR will require another bowling all-rounder as the backup.

Since the Knight Riders don’t have enough money left in their purse, they need to be very decisive in terms of picking the players. Curtis Campher, the South African-born Irish cricketer can be a perfect backup for Andre Russell.

2. Phil Salt

Phil Salt who represents the England cricket team is known for his fearless batting. He is one of the players KKR should look to target in the upcoming auction in Kochi on December 23.

Salt is someone who can instantly take the game away from the opposition. Notably, he has a superb strike rate of 151.6 in the initial six overs in T20s. If KKR manages to buy him at the auction, then it would be a great deal.
