Deccan Chargers was an IPL franchise cricket team from Hyderabad. The franchise made an entry into the Indian Premier League in 2008. Not many know that Deccan Chargers finished last in the inaugural edition of the IPL.
Little did everyone know that the Hyderabad-based franchise would go on to win the second edition of the Indian Premier League. They got the better of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2009 final to win the first title.
In 2012, the IPL Governing Council ended the franchise for violating the contract terms. Deccan Chargers have had some players making a name for themselves by leading the batting attack by example.
In this article, we will take a glimpse at two Australians who scored a century for the Deccan Chargers in the history of the IPL.
1. Adam Gilchrist
Deccan Chargers won the title under the captaincy of former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, Adam Gilchrist. In fact, Gilchrist led the team for the first three seasons as Rohit Sharma served as the vice-captain.
From the fourth season onwards, Kumar Sangakkara led Deccan Chargers from the front whereas Cameron White served as his deputy. Gilchrist was one of the Australians who scored a century for the Deccan Chargers in the IPL. He scored a scintillating 109* off 47 against Mumbai Indians in 2007/08. He smashed a flurry of nine boundaries and ten sixes to his name.
