Many teams in recent times have struggled in the transition period. Sri Lanka and South Africa are some teams to name. However, Australia is one squad that did ace the transition phase well. Yes, they did struggle at the start but later on, they did well to win a couple of important tournaments. That said, the team might have to prepare one more phase in the next few years. Here, we take a look at two Australians who could be touring India for the last time for a Test series.
1) David Warner
David Warner is currently 36 years old and if you take out his double century in his 100th game, his recent form has actually not been great. Australia would be keen to have a solid backup option for the next WTC cycle.
At least for the next tour of India, which will be a few years away, it is hard to expect Warner to be a part of the squad. The chances would further reduce if Warner is not at his best in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2023. Therefore, he is on this list.
2) Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is one of the Australians who could be touring India for the last time for a Test series. Even for the upcoming campaign, Starc will be unavailable for the first game as he is nursing an injury.
At max, a playing XI would need two frontline pacers in India. Cameron Green is anyways available as the medium-pace bowling all-rounder. In such a context, it would be hard to expect Starc to be a part of the squad when Australia tours India in the future. The management would rather make the full use of the pacer at home and in other suitable conditions such as in England, New Zealand and South Africa.
