Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were both candidates for a spot on Team India’s playing XI for the first match of the 2022 Asia Cup, which is being played against Pakistan. In the end, India decided to go with Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik.
When it came to the lengthier forms, there was arguably never much of a question about Pant’s ability to win matches. Even though he has been supported by the management for more than 50 games, his stats in T20 Internationals are quite unimpressive.
However, with the return of big guns like KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, the southpaw was unable to earn a spot in India’s middle-order batting lineup. This ought to provide some confidence in Karthik as he starts the next chapter of his miraculous comeback to international cricket as a finisher.
