While a five-wicket haul is seen as a terrific achievement, a few cricketers have done better by picking a few more scalps. In the case of Indian bowlers, as well, there have been many instances of six-wicket hauls. While the first one occurred way back in 1993, the latest one is in 2022. On that note, we take a look at ten Indian bowlers to take a six-wicket haul in ODI cricket history so far.
1) Stuart Binny
Opposition: Bangladesh || Year: 2014 || Venue: Mirpur || Figures: 6/4
Under the leadership of Suresh Raina, an Indian Team with a few newbies traveled to Bangladesh in 2014. Stuart Binny was yet to establish himself in the playing XI. However, in the game, he was just unplayable. With his brilliant ability to swing the ball, he took wickets in a heap. The all-rounder still holds the best figures for an Indian in ODI cricket.
2) Anil Kumble
Opposition: West Indies || Year: 1993 || Venue: Kolkata || Figures: 6/12
Anil Kumble is one of the Indian bowlers to take a six-wicket haul in ODI cricket history so far. The legendary cricketer was the first to take a six-wicket haul for Team India. It was against a strong West Indies at the iconic Eden Gardens. It took almost another decade for another Indian bowler to take a six-wicket haul.
3) Jasprit Bumrah
Opposition: England || Year: 2022 || Venue: London || Figures: 6/19
Jasprit Bumrah is the latest entrant to this list. The star Indian pacer took important wickets of the likes of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Liam Livingstone, and Ben Stokes to enter this list. It would not be a surprise if he makes a reappearance or even betters his record.
4) Ashish Nehra
Opposition: England || Year: 2003 || Venue: Durban || Figures: 6/23
Opposition: Sri Lanka || Year: 2005 || Venue: Colombo || Figures: 6/59
Ashish Nehra is the only Indian to take a six-wicket haul on two occasions. Interestingly, the left-arm pacer did it within a space of two years. One of these, against England, was at the all-important 50-over World Cup in 2003. That display is one of the most memorable days of the player’s career.
5) Kuldeep Yadav
Opposition: England || Year: 2018 || Venue: Nottingham || Figures: 6/25
Kuldeep Yadav is also one of the Indian bowlers to take a six-wicket haul in ODI cricket history so far. Just like in Bumrah’s case, Kuldeep also took a six-wicket haul in the first ODI of an Indian Tour. Interestingly, the likes of Roy, Bairstow, Root, and Stokes featured in the wickets column for Kuldeep in that game, as well.
6) Murali Kartik
Opposition: Australia || Year: 2007 || Venue: Mumbai || Figures: 6/27
Murali Kartik did not enjoy a long career with Team India. However, his performance at the Wankhede in 2007 is a memorable one. He helped India bundle out the Aussies for just 193 before chasing the target in a low-scoring thriller.
7) Ajit Agarkar
Opposition: Australia || Year: 2004 || Venue: Melbourne || Figures: 6/42
Ajit Agarkar is also part of this list of Indian bowlers to take a six-wicket haul in ODI cricket history so far. The Mumbai cricketer is one of the underrated ODI cricketers that Team India has seen. His display at the MCG in 2004 is one for the ages.
8) Yuzvendra Chahal
Opposition: Australia || Year: 2019 || Venue: Melbourne || Figures: 6/42
In a repeat of Ajit Agarkar’s performance, Chahal, too, picked six wickets at the same venue and finished with the same figures. Chahal’s victim list included the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Usman Khawaja, and Shaun Marsh amongst others.
9) Amit Mishra
Opposition: Zimbabwe || Year: 2013 || Venue: Bulawayo || Figures: 6/48
Amit Mishra is one player who could not get a lot of chances with Team India. Nevertheless, he does have top performance in his career. This happened when he was part of the touring squad to Zimbabwe in 2013.
10) S Sreesanth
Opposition: England || Year: 2006 || Venue: Indore || Figures: 6/55
Hence, S Sreesanth is also one of the Indian bowlers to take a six-wicket haul in ODI cricket history so far. Another six-wicket haul by an Indian against England comes under Sreesanth’s account. It was a stunning show that gave India a comfortable victory.
