Earlier today, Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga announced his decision to retire from all forms of the game. He had earlier retired from Tests and ODIs. Malinga has now hung up his boots in T20 format too. In this article, we take a look at some of the best Twitter reactions as Lasith Malinga announces retirement from the game.
Lasith Malinga announces retirement
Lasith Malinga is one of the legends of the game. He had a slightly unorthodox action, and while many opined that he could struggle after batsmen get used to reading him, Malinga re-invented himself to stay relevant and on top of his game.
Across formats, the Sri Lankan legend took 546 wickets. Although he did not do very well in Tests, Malinga was a great cricketer in the other formats. While he initially came to notice for his toe-crushing yorkers, Malinga later also became famous for his dangerous, slower deliveries. The right-arm pacer also enjoyed his time in franchise cricket, winning multiple trophies for Mumbai Indians.

10 Best tweets as the legend bids adieu
Injuries have hampered Malinga’s progress in recent years. A T20 World Cup-winning captain, there were expectations that he would feature in the 2021 edition of the event. However, the recent squad announcement did not include his name. Malinga has now announced his decision to retire from the game. Posting the news on his Twitter account, he said, “Hanging up my T20 shoes and retiring from all forms of cricket! Thankful to all those who supported me in my journey, and looking forward to sharing my experience with young cricketers in the years to come.”
Malinga also mentioned his intentions to pass on the knowledge to youngsters in the video that he posted. He said, “I am looking forward to helping youngsters and guide them in the coming years.” He added, “I want to give 100 per cent rest to my T20 shoes. While my shoes will rest, my love for the game will never ask for rest.” On that note, let’s take a look at some of the best tweets as the legend bid adieu.
