MI vs CSK: The second phase of Indian Premier League started with a bang as Chennai Super Kings overturned an obnoxious start to impose a hefty drubbing on the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians.
Opting to bat first, Chennai was jolted to a rude awakening with the Kiwi bowling duo of Milne and Boult wreaking havoc. However, a decent partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja stabilised the sinking ship.
The game between at a glance CSK and MI
Gaikwad blazed his way through the Mumbai bowling line-up with an impeccable knock of 88 from 58 balls while Jadeja’s 26 proved crucial for the Yellow army.
A late blitzkreig from Dwayne Bravo propelled Chennai to a fighting 156 which looked pretty decent according to the surface.
Mumbai couldn’t really break free from the shackles that had Chennai pinned early in their innings. Deepak Chahar struck twice in succession to fire a warning shot while Shardul Thakur claimed the all-important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.
Barring Saurabh Tiwary, Mumbai couldn’t flap their wings at all as the Chennai bowlers swarmed over them convenietly. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the slew with three wickets for 25 runs while Chahar’s brace gave Mumbai the early shock from which they never really recovered.
The last lunge from Mumbai Indians
Despite a desperate hurl from the southpaw, the other batters were absolutely reckless and gave away their wickets brashly.
This defeat can cost Mumbai heavily as the title race will intensify in case of Kolkata and Rajasthan Royals win their respective matches, they will be on level terms with the reigning champions and the contest for the play-offs berths will be wide open again.
Twitter couldn’t contain their excitement as the returning IPL made its footfall and it was an intense display straight away.
