‘You only know great players from how they perform during difficult times’-Shahid Afridi talks about Virat Kohli not scoring a century for 1000+ days

Shahid Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has provided an honest response on Virat Kohli, a great batter for India, in advance of the much anticipated Asia Cup 2022. He believes that the batter has complete control over his destiny, which will be determined by how well he does in the Twenty20 International event.

A supporter questioned Afridi about Kohli’s future during a question and answer session that was taking place on Twitter. In his written response to the query, Afridi stated:

In the high-stakes encounter that will take place between India and Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai, the attention will be focused mostly on the player who once captained India.

After a layoff of five weeks, the batter who bats right-handed will make his way back onto the field. During the tour of England, he failed to score more than 20 runs in any of the six innings he played. His performance with the bat was abysmal. Following scores of 1 and 11, respectively, in his most recent two T20Is, he batted in two ODIs and posted scores of 16 and 17, respectively, in those two matches.

During the same Twitter Q&A session, Afridi was asked for his thoughts on Kohli’s inability to make a century in the recent past. In response, the former captain of Pakistan said that the performance of major players is evaluated according to how well they perform under pressure.

“Bare players ka mushkil waqt me hi pata chalta hai” (You only know great players from how they perform during difficult times)”

Virat Kohli, who is often regarded as the contemporary day equivalent of a run machine, has not scored a century in the last 33 months. His most recent century was scored in November 2019, when he was playing against Bangladesh.

His devoted following is holding their breath in anticipation of him scoring his 70th international century. The right-handed batter will also be trying to silence his detractors with his performance and put an end to all of the speculations that have surrounded his batting future.

Kohli will be under pressure to perform well in a high-stakes encounter against Pakistan and throughout the remainder of the tournament as India prepares for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. This is because younger players have been rising to the challenge over the last few months.
