“Will be surprised if they don’t pick Dinesh Karthik for World Cup,” Ricky Ponting is mighty impressed with Karthik’s performance for RCB

Dinesh Karthik batted at the highest strike rate in IPL 2022 among all the batsmen who faced a minimum of 100 deliveries

The former Australian captain Ricky Ponting reckons that the veteran batsman Dinesh Karthik should be in India’s squad for the next T20 World Cup which will take place in the upcoming Australian summer.

Ricky Ponting was the head coach of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and he saw Dinesh Karthik from close quarters as he was one of the most impactful players of this year’s tournament. Karthik actually had the highest strike rate among all the players who faced a minimum of 100 deliveries.

According to Ponting, who was in a conversation with Isa Guha for the show named The ICC Review, if a player makes a match-winning impact in 3 or 4 games for his team during the course of the IPL, it can be said that he had a good tournament, but during the last IPL, Karthik made an impact in more than 3-4 games for RCB.

Although the other players of RCB, the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli, also played well in patches, in the opinion of Ponting, it was actually Dinesh Karthik down the order and the skipper Faf du Plessis at the top whose performances were responsible for keeping RCB in the hunt for so long in the tournament.

Dinesh Karthik has been recalled to the Indian squad for the T20I series against South Africa

Ricky Ponting said that he would be surprised if he doesn’t see Dinesh Karthik’s name in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup because he is the perfect fit for the finisher’s role, batting at no. 5 or 6.

Dinesh Karthik has been recalled in the Indian squad for the 5-match T20I series against South Africa and he even played in the first game of the series in Delhi, but it remains uncertain if he keeps his place in the Indian XI when the regular features of the Indian team return to the squad.

The three most important batsmen of India’s white-ball squads, the captain Rohit Sharma himself, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul, are not participating in the T20I series against South Africa.
