The BCCI has confirmed Chetan Sharma as the national men’s senior selection committee chairman once again. Chetan, who served in the same capacity on the last selection committee until it was disbanded in November of last year, will be joined on the new panel by his former colleagues Shiv Sunder Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, and S Sharath.
Ashok Malhotra, Sulakshana Naik, and Jatin Paranjape, who make up the BCCI’s cricket advisory group, narrowed the field to five guys out of “about 600 applicants.” After India was knocked out of the men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals on November 18, 2022, the BCCI decided to dissolve the previous committee, prompting the publication of the aforementioned job posting on the BCCI’s website the very next day.
Despite being dismissed from their positions, the panel members proceeded to choose the India men’s national squad for the ODI and Test trip to Bangladesh and the present ODI series at home against Sri Lanka. The panel chaired by Chetan was reportedly awarded an extension till the end of 2022 and entrusted with monitoring the Ranji Trophy matches until the end of the year in addition to selecting national selections.
Further, Chetan’s presence at last week’s BCCI review meeting of India’s roadmap to the 2023 ODI World Cup, alongside head coach Rahul Dravid, all-format captain Rohit Sharma, National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman, and other top BCCI functionaries, is perhaps a big indication that he might not be replaced, even if the others were.
Every year, the members of the selection panel must be re-elected for a four-year term.
Meanwhile, on January 1st, the CAC was established to conduct interviews with applicants, compile a shortlist of candidates, and submit its recommendations to the BCCI; the BCCI then established the five-member panel based on those suggestions.

What is wrong with BCCI? Have gone insane?
It is not long ago they fired the whole selection committee including Chetan Sharma.
In the interim, what miraculous selection was made by him when they used him thru the backdoor?
Surreptitious act capped with stupidity! https://t.co/r5daiuMkSj— Jose Puliampatta (@JosePuliampatta) January 7, 2023
